Germany launches rapid detection laser for drinking water

Germany launches rapid detection laser for drinking water Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Physics in Germany recently published a research bulletin that a special infrared laser can automatically analyze water samples from drinking water plants. The volume of this laser is only the size of a shoe box. Its working principle is that each compound molecule has a specific absorption spectrum, and the type of the compound can be confirmed by irradiating the water sample with an infrared laser and analyzing the absorption spectrum.

This infrared laser has been tested at the Jinzixi River Water Plant in the Black Forest region of Germany. In 6 weeks, this set of equipment will automatically detect drinking water samples every 3 minutes. A total of about 21,000 tests were performed. The result was very accurate.

In addition to daily inspection and analysis of drinking water, this instrument can also quickly detect hazardous substances in water. This will help government departments to respond quickly to water pollution incidents.
