In the collaboration, MIT's AgeLab Laboratories is responsible for technology research and development. For this purpose, it will adopt a program called "Touchstone Evaluation." The program comes from Touchstone Automotive Technologies, Inc., which focuses on the driver's attention and distraction in multi-tasking situations to develop an innovative user interface.

Patton said: “We know that drivers want to stay connected to the outside world while driving. This is one of the tasks of the technology alliance.

Patton revealed that the alliance’s initial plan is to study the impact of various sources of interference (visual, auditory, and tactile) on the workload of drivers within a year. He estimated that Denso will spend about 4 years focusing on the research.

Patton also believes that in the future voice control components and devices like head-up displays will get more applications in the car, and the buttons of traditional human-computer interaction interfaces will gradually be eliminated.

Denso also cited juvenile driving data from several authoritative organizations in the United States. Among them, a teenager was involved in a traffic accident in 55 seconds in the United States. In addition, the proportion of deaths from driving accidents among youngsters is 3 times higher than the sum of all other causes. Among young people, men are more likely than women to have accidents while driving.

Denso called this phenomenon the “Teen Driving Challenge” and stated that its research team already possesses relevant technologies that can reduce such risks. It will display technology at the Intelligent Transportation System Conference later this year.
