Grease is an important part of petroleum products. In 2005, the annual domestic grease production was 270,000 tons, which accounted for nearly 20% of global production. It was widely used in industrial, civil, national defense, aerospace and other fields.
The China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association stated in its application that in 1985, with the consent of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the grease industry organization was established and affiliated with the Petroleum Refinery Committee of the China Petroleum Institute. The members include state-owned, local, and privately-owned grease companies and research institutes. Institutions, military research units and related institutions currently have 38 member institutions. In 1987 it was renamed the Grease Association. Since its establishment, the association has done a lot of positive and effective work for the development of the grease industry. According to Decree No. 23 of 2001 issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the branch offices of the society can no longer set up the next-level organization, and the academic organization is not suitable to manage the association. At the same time, because the coverage of the industry is relatively narrow, it cannot be a national industry association, and thus directly affects the association’s Existence and work coordination in the grease industry.
From the perspective of the association's standardized operation and better service function, the association is applying as a branch of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association. The China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association passed the resolution of the Fourth Session of the Council and accepted the application of the Association. It intends to establish the "China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association Grease Specialty Committee" on the basis of the original grease association.
