China's natural gas compressor manufacturing and foreign analysis

In late May, China's first natural gas triple power plant will be officially put into operation. This shows that China's development strategy for increasing the proportion of natural gas in energy composition has entered the implementation stage.

However, at present, the manufacturing technology of natural gas compressors for the four main purposes in China is generally not high, and there is a big gap compared with similar foreign products. Compressor manufacturers generally suffer from lags in processing technology and equipment, and low precision machining of compressor components, which has led to the fact that these compressors are still dependent on imports.

At present, China's natural gas compressor manufacturing industry still has a certain distance from advanced countries, mainly in the following aspects:

The first is a compressor for long-distance pipeline booster stations. In the West-East Gas Pipeline Project, natural gas must be laid for long-distance transport and a natural gas booster station must be established to achieve long-distance natural gas transmission through multistage supercharging of natural gas compressors. At present, only a few companies in China can be involved in the manufacture of compressors for long-distance pipeline booster stations. There is a big gap between their technological level and product quality and the world's advanced level. As a result, domestic natural gas compressors have almost no performance to speak of in such important projects as West-East gas transmission.

The second is large-scale fertilizer plant compressors. For decades, China has imported more than 30 sets of large-scale fertilizer plants, and the compressors used are also imported with complete sets of equipment. In other words, over the years, China's compressor manufacturing companies simply do not have the opportunity to develop compressors for large chemical fertilizer installations. Until the end of last year, China's first large-scale demonstration plant for fertilizers made of coal was successfully put into operation at Shandong Hualu Hengsheng. The air compressor, nitrogen compressor, and ammonia press used in this large-scale fertilizer plant are all manufactured by Shenyang Blower (Group) Co., Ltd., which indicates that the large-scale fertilizer plant compressor in China can be domestically produced. But from "yes" to "completely", how much more is this going to happen?

The third is a compressor suitable for triple power generation devices. At present, the proportion of natural gas-fired power generation equipment on the international average is as high as 85%, while China's ratio is far away from this ratio, resulting in very few compressors used in China's natural gas triple power generation units. It is understood that domestic enterprises of this type of compressor are fully capable of manufacturing, but huge business opportunities cannot be obtained.

The fourth is CNG compressors for autogas stations. For CNG compressor manufacturing at natural gas vehicle refueling stations, the application of natural gas vehicles in China is still at an early stage. Therefore, the research and development of compressors for natural gas vehicle refueling stations has just attracted domestic attention. Although China currently has the ability to manufacture such compressors, the domestic natural gas filling station compressors operating on the market are often refitted from other compressors, and the quality of products is uneven.

Experts in the industry believe that China's natural gas compressor manufacturing industry should work harder in developing and designing, overall product quality, and strengthening the implementation of standards and services, and increasing varieties, in order to meet China's needs for accelerating the development of the natural gas industry.
