Bridgestone U.S. factory officially begins expansion

According to foreign media reports, local time on March 9, 2016, Bridgestone Wilson tire factory expansion project held a groundbreaking ceremony. It is reported that the project is located in North Carolina, USA, and the total investment is expected to reach 164 million U.S. dollars.

The total investment for the first and second phases of the project is close to 100 million U.S. dollars, which will increase 167,000 square feet of production space to accommodate new tire assembly equipment, material handling systems, vulcanizers, and related ancillary equipment.

Bridgestone expects that by 2018, the plant will have a capacity of 35,000 tires per day.

The company said that the new project will allow the factory to calmly cope with the increasing global demand for large-size tires, and improve quality and production efficiency while reducing costs.

The factory's most recent expansion was in 1999, when an additional 85,000 square feet of production space was added.

Bridgestone has two production plants for passenger tires in the United States, one in Canada and two in Mexico. The Wilson factory won several safety and environmental awards.
