BMW announced on July 8 that due to its outstanding performance in both China and the United States, sales in the first half of this year surpassed rivals Mercedes and Audi to lead the luxury brand market in the first half of this year.
BMW yesterday released sales figures for June and the first half of this year. The data shows that the BMW brand sold a total of 153,000 new cars in June, and its sales volume increased by 9.4% year-on-year. In terms of competitors, Mercedes-Benz's growth rate in June was 8.3%, while Audi was even lower, only 5.5%.
In the first half of this year, BMW's sales volume was 7.7 percentage points higher than last year, which was 804,000 vehicles. This achievement was higher than the 23,500 Audi sales. In the first six months of this year, the growth rate of Audi and Mercedes-Benz was 6.4%, and 780,500 new cars and 694,000 vehicles were sold.
Citing an analyst from Nordlb, Germany, BMW will still lead the luxury brand market in the second half of this year. The analyst pointed out that BMW's excellent design and advanced fuel-saving technology are two weapons that BMW has surpassed its rivals.
Although this year's sales are less than BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi have proposed in their own development plans and hope that by 2020, BMW will be able to replace the throne of the sales champion.
